Greenhouse Gas Emissions Verification

BSI Services

The complexities and risks in monitoring and reporting GHG emissions are significant and BSI's pedigree as a global leader in environmental management enables us to provide expert services for GHG management in the following areas:

Pre-Assessment
Prior to conducting a full verification or validation of your industrial installation or GHG project, BSI can conduct a pre-assessment stage.

Partnering with BSI for this stage will help compliance and ensure your emissions reporting system has robust:

  1. Management Control  - ensuring risk control systems are in place
  2. Plant Monitoring  - assessing measurement accuracy at source
  3. Data Accuracy  - analyzing data recording processes

Validation
Validation is the process of ensuring accuracy and completeness of proposed emissions reporting systems and project design documents.

Validation is a requirement for registration of GHG reduction projects, most notably in JI and CDM, and ensures the viability of the project to move forward.

BSI has extensive experience in validating:

  • new methodologies for monitoring and reporting GHG emissions
  • project design documents under the CDM & JI
  • company GHG emission monitoring and reporting plans
  • reported baseline GHG emissions levels

Verification
Verification is the process of ensuring that reported GHG emission figures are accurate and BSI’s approach will ensure emissions reports are:

  • credible
  • faithfully represented
  • transparent
  • consistent
  • reliable

BSI applies the following process:

  1. Strategic Analysis involves BSI gaining an overview of the project activities and an understanding of the significance of emissions.
  2. Process Analysis is an on-site verification of information involving spot checks to determine data reliability.
  3. Risk Analysis verifies risk control methods minimizing uncertainty and evaluates the reliability of data from each source.
  4. BSI’s Report will specify the issues uncovered in the verification work and will provide a qualified opinion that reported emissions are not materially misstated.

BSI has extensive international experience in:

  • accredited ETS verifications
  • group or industry sector-based verifications
  • multi-site, process-based installations
